The Strange Case of The United States V. Billie Holiday
The United States vs. Billie Holiday, tells the story of how the jazz icon, portrayed brilliantly by Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominee Andra Day, was targeted and ultimately set up by the Federal Narcotics Division of the FBI after her refusal to stop singing her anti-lynching hit “Strange Fruit”. The same song that Time Magazine named the song of the 20th Century. Given the current social and political climate still resonates so deeply today. But I digress. The film also stars Trevante Rhodes as Jimmy Fletcher, the agent sent undercover to entrap Holiday, who ultimately ends up falling in love with the singer. The movie also chronicles how Holiday’s career and personal life were affected by her drug addiction. Tune in to hear if The United States vs. Billie Holiday hits the right notes or falls flat.
