Ma Don’t Take No Mess

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom is based on August Wilson’s play of the same name. The film chronicles a day in the life of 1920’s blues singer Ma Rainey and her band, Levee, Cutter, Slow Drag, and Toledo during a tension-filled session at a Chicago recording studio which ends in tragedy. This was the last film Chadwick Boseman starred in before his death last year. The film also stars the incomparable Viola Davis and is currently streaming on Netflix.
