ENHYPHEN: GIVE & TAKE

See this content in the original post

Welcome to the introduction of Big Hit Entertainment’s (BTS; TXT; Seventeen etc) latest group, ENHYPHEN. If you watched the reality series I-Land then you may already be familiar with Heeseung, Jay, Sunghoon, Jake, Jungwon, Sunoo, and Niki. I admittedly only watched the show when it wasn’t about the show. Meaning I only watched when BTS, Zico, Seventeen or TXT were involved. I was dead set against liking this group. I guess it was because of my own ideas about groups manufactured on reality shows. Just by the nature of how they’re founded/created etc, the expectations were so low. After the group was formed I started to see their dance videos pop up on YouTube and I really started to pay attention, at least to the dancing and I was impressed. Okay so they’re good dancers. So are a lot of people and there’s more to it than just dancing. But at this point they had at least captured my attention for more than their secondary connection to BTS. As I watched more videos, including the show they did as a countdown to their debut and the actual release of music, I found myself really liking them. This is the first Kpop group I have followed since their debut. It’s amazing I-Land just ended in late August early September and a couple of months later, they debuted.

I must admit I was pleasantly surprised by the album BORDER: DAY ONE. It was more than I expected. Although I knew it wouldn’t be straight trash. Big Hit doesn’t do trash. But I was cautiously optimistic and had really tempered my expectations. In true Kpop./2020 fashion it’s more of a mini album/ EP containing only 6 tracks, 2 of which are the spoken word intro and outro. So we have four full tracks which I love. The album was surprising good. The lead off single “Given-Taken” is amazing. (check below for the video). If I had to pick a favorite song I would probably say it’s “10 Months”, but I really do enjoy the whole EP. It’s one you can put on repeat and just it play in the background while reading, working or something. Not bad for a debut. I am really impressed. I do hope to see more from the boys of ENHYPHEN. I look forward to their growth and evolution as a group.
