Nobody Is Listening is ZAYN’s third full-length studio release since going solo after he left One Direction back in 2015 and honestly it is the best effort to date. It also leaves room for continued growth and improvement. The two leadoff singles “Better” and “Vibez” are by far the best followed closely by the duet with Syd, “When Love’s Around” and “Tightrope”. Vocally the album is on point. ZAYN’s falsetto is beautiful. But overall the rest of the album is a collection of songs all of which have potential but they don’t quite hit. The intro track “Calamity” is a perfect example. It’s a mix of spoken word and vocals. The vocals are amazing and are by far the best part of the track, but they come at the very end and are overshadowed by the spoken word intro, I was tempted to skip the first song entirely but am glad I didn’t. The album does get better (no pun intended) with each listen, but it’s also one where you can pull out your favorite songs drop them into a playlist, and be done.
