Minisode 1: Blue Hour

TxT (more formally known as Tomorrow x Together) is a 5 member boy band from South Korea. They are part of the Big Hit Entertainment family and have often been referred to as BTS’ baby brothers. Maybe that’s why I have really never paid much attention to them until now. I have heard their music and honestly was not impressed. It wasn’t bad, it wasn’t good. It was just meh. So needless to say I wasn’t hyped about their comeback and release of their new EP, “Minisode1: Blue Hour’. Like most things regarding TxT I was ambivalent. I am not sure why I decided to listen. But am I glad I did because something about “Blue Hour” just hit different. For me this is when TxT finally stepped out of their big brothers’ shadow and truly began to form their own identity and sound. Starting with the first track, “Ghosting’ about a disappearing love, it just pulls you in. The song sounds like it could be the theme from an 80’s John Hughes film. Then there’s the upbeat title track and lead off single “Blue Hour” which is an infectious retro pop tune. I think my favorite song is “We Lost The Summer”, lamenting a lost love and longing for that lost summer (time) when things seemed perfect. “Wishlist” and “Way Home” are both tracks that seem like they were pulled from a teen romance movie, which is not a bad thing unless you don’t like teen romance movies. Maybe that’s why I like it so much. All the songs seem like they were curated for a classic John Hughes film like Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club or Pretty in Pink.
