Grammy Noms, Snubs, & Call Outs
The Grammy nominations are out and there were tears of joy, tears of anger, and some genuine wtf were they thinking moments/tears to be cried. So let’s start with the joyous tears. First and foremost congratulations to all of this year’s nominees. Beyonce lead all nominees with 9 total nominations. Amazing how she has never won album of the year. Big big ups to the women dominating the major rock and country categories. And a super special shout out to first time quadruple nominee Megan Thee Stallion. She was nominated for best new artist, record of the year, rap song, and rap/song performance. Chika was also nominated for best new artist. I also want to send a big shout to the BTS, they became the first Korean/K-Pop group ever to be nominated. They were nominated for “Dynamite” in the best pop/duo group performance. Although this is truly bittersweet because they were snubbed in other major categories. Nevermind Map of the Soul 7 was only the second highest-selling album of the year, behind Taylor Swift’s Folklore. And also one of 2 albums to sell more than 500,000 copies this year. Again only second to Folklore . “Dynamite” alone should have also been nominated in the song and record of the year categories. I know Inevitably someone is going to be left off the list, but what happened to The Weeknd was an egregious mistake of fucking epic proportions. He was NOT nominated in any category. No, you read that right. Not a single fucking nomination and he hands down had one of the best albums of this whole shitshow year. I dare you to come at me. After Hours got me through the first part of quarantine. The Weeknd is one of those artists who in my opinion gets better with time. And for him not to get at least one nom is fudiculous (new word alert). He called out the Academy and they responded. Another shocking snub was Kehlani not receiving a nom for her amazing album It Was Good Til It Wasn’t. Justin Bieber even had some thoughts about his Grammy nominations for his album Changes. He felt like the academy miscategorized the album as Pop when it was an R&B album. In any event this year’s show is sure to be interesting and one for the books. Trevor Noah is set to host the show scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 31, 2021, on CBS at 8 ET / 5 PT. (Billboard)
The Other Side Of The DC Universe
John Ridley is returning to his comic book roots with the anthology series, The Other History of The DC Universe, which focuses on iconic moments in the DC universe from the perspective of underserved or marginalized heroes such as Black Lightning aka Jefferson Pierce. and Renee Montoya (The Question) I am ALL the way here for this. The first of the five-part series is scheduled to be released on Nov. 24th. followed by a new release every other month thereafter. DC Comics has taken the lead in the push for more diverse representation especially in the world of superheroes and comics. They recently introduced Kid Quick a non-binary superhero, to The Flash series. I am definitely going to check out The Other History series and just from what I know so far, I am going out on a limb to say I think it would make a great limited series for TV if only they had access to a network looking to expand their profile say like HBO Max. Just a thought. (THR)
Finding Forester Tv Reboot Finds A Home
Add the 2000 film Finding Forrester, starring Sean Connery and Rob Brown to the television reboot category. This was one of Sean Connery’s last major acting roles. Steph Curry yes the basketball icon is producing through his Unanimous Media production company for NBC Tim Story is also involved not sure if it’s as a director, producer, or both. It seems this is going to be a complete reimagining. Same story but different characters. I Ioved this movie, although I have not seen it in a while. I may have to watch it again, just to see how it’s aged. I will check out the reboot of course. but I am not sure where to file this. I guess the cautiously optimistic category is a good place for now. (Deadline)
Folklore Goes Live(ish) On Disney+
Taylor Swift is surprising fans with a fireside concert performance film of her hit album Folklore. The intimate concert will begin streaming on Disney+ today just in time for Thanksgiving. I'm a huge Taylor Swift fan and am really excited about this. Congrats to her on the Grammy noms. Folklore was definitely one of my favorite albums from this year. More on that later. But I am also excited that there won’t be a shortage of things to watch on tv this holiday. (Variety)
It's Time To Return To Bayside
Finally, the time has come for us all to return to Bayside High. Starting today you can watch all 10 episodes of the Saved By The Bell reboot on Peacock. I lowkey find myself more excited about this than I realized. I do plan on watching the show if not today then definitely tomorrow or sometime before the holiday weekend ends. Well if you’re like me it’s been a while since you’ve seen SBTB , Variety has ranked the 30 best OG episodes of the show. Admittedly I know little about the reboot besides Jessie and Slater are now working at their alma mater, Bayside High. Zack and Kelly are married and he is now the governor of California. Their son is one of the major characters and …that’s pretty much it. But I am excited to learn more. For those of you who want to know more before you dive into the reboot, Entertainment Weekly has you covered with all you need to know about the reboot. (EW)
