Spotlight Artist: Kehlani

Kehlani is one of my favorite artists and just like a fine wine she keeps getting better with time. She is one of the many talented women completely flipping the R&B genre on its head right now. Many would put her in the category of alternative R&B. I’m good with that if she is the alternative to a lot of what is passing for good music in the mainstream R&B category these days. Although I must admit when I was first introduced to her with the release of her debut album You Should Be Here, I was just a casual fan. However, that changed with the release of the second album Sweet, Sexy, Savage. With each subsequent release Kehlani just gets better and better. Her latest release It Was Good Until It Wasn’t proves that Kehlani is a force to be reckoned with. I look forward her continued to evolution as an artist and a songwriter. She and several of her contemporaries such as Jhené Aiko, Teyana Taylor, and Summer Walker cover the current issue of Billboard Magazine, where they discuss the current state and evolution of R&B.
