This week the spotlight shines brightly on British singer, songwriter, composer, rapper, and producer Labrinth. I have been casually aware of Labrinth and his music for awhile. I mostly enjoyed the few songs I had heard, mostly collabs with other artists. But I became a true fan last year when I heard the Euphoria soundtrack, which was written, composed, sung and produced in its entirety by Labrinth. The brilliance of which matched that of its namesake television show. From that point on I made it a point to listen to every and anything Labrinth did. I must say he is so talented not to mention that voice, which sounds like it should be leading a gospel choir. Maybe that’s why I feel like he’s taking me to church whenever he sings. His voice has a pure, raspy yet soulful quality that often reminds me of one of my favorite singers of all time, the late great Mr. Otis Redding. Whether he’s singing, soul, R&B, pop, EDM or whatever Labrinth and his distinctive voice always shines.
