Two Sides of The Same Coin

I.M aka Im Changkyun, maknae (youngest member) and rapper in K-Pop powerhouse group Monsta X recently released his solo mini-album (mixtape) Duality and all I can say is “God Damn” I.M…That shit is straight 🔥🔥🔥🔥. As a fan of Monsta X I knew I.M was talented and I am a huge fan of his raspy voice and rap style but with Duality he takes it to another level. Simply put he is in his grown man bag. Duality is a platform that allows I.M to showcase two completely different sides of himself. The hard-hitting raps/lyrics and husky vocals that Monbebes (Monsta X fans) are used to are juxtaposed with a refreshingly raw vulnerability that we are not used to seeing from I.M. The beats, delivery, and lyrics throughout all hit hard, delivering a perfect balance of sexy, chill, and a touch of darkness. The way I.M blends in English and Korean together is also effortless and smooth. There are times when you don’t know where one ends and the other begins. The best example of this duality is the title track “God Damn”. The term itself has dual meanings and varies depending on the way you use it. The video is also 🔥🔥🔥 .

I’ve had this album on repeat rotation since it came out. It only consists of five tracks which is not nearly enough. But it was enough for I.M to dominate over 20% of the World Songs chart upon release. Duality is a great start to what I hope will be a long prosperous solo career for I.M. I look forward to seeing where he goes and how he continues to develop as an artist, writer, and producer.
