The Highs, The Lows, & The Subdued of Grammy Night

Where do we begin? Most of the reviews about the night and low-key ceremony hosted by Trevor Noah have been quite positive. I mostly agree. I did like the show although it did run a bit long. I also enjoyed the way they did performances. Overall, I think they pulled it off quite well. Although it was the lowest watched Grammys show with only 8.8 million viewers, it has been the most watched awards show so far this year. As far as the actual awards… I wish they would have presented more live during the show. As for the winners, it was ladies’ night as women dominated the night particularly Megan Thee Stallion, Billie Eilish, and Beyonce. The Queen, Bey made history with her four wins putting her atop the all-time Grammy winner list. We were not blessed with a performance. But Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B went awwwwffffff, on their individual performances and their collab of “WAP” (see below). The top four major categories. were won by women. Billie Eilish won Record of The Year (“Everything I Ever Wanted”). Taylor Swift, Folklore, won Album of the Year. H.E.R won Song of the Year with “I Can’t Breathe”. Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia won Best Pop Vocal Album. Silk Sonic (aka Bruno Mars and Anderson.Paak) made their debut with a smooth nostalgic performance of their hit “Leave the Door Open”. Congrats to all the winners and nominees.

BTS made history by being the first K-Pop group ever to be nominated for a Grammy. Their hit song “Dynamite” was nominated for Best Pop Group/Duo Performance. I originally stated my displeasure with them only being nominated for one award. I still stand by my original displeasure. So I tried to temper my disappointment when they did not take home the prize. Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande won for their song “Rain On Me”, which is a cool and catchy song. I wasn’t surprised that they didn’t win and again I tried to temper my disappointment but I think this article in Forbes best sums up my feelings regarding the BTS Grammy experience. Now I must say their performance of “Dynamite” definitely did not disappoint. They couldn’t make it to the Grammys so they brought the show to them and recreated the stage/show in Seoul with the performance culminating atop one of Seoul’s tallest buildings Parc1 Tower (see the performance below).

Overall Popcorn Rating 🍿🍿🍿.75/ 5

Below are some of my favorite performances of the night.
