SNL’S Savage Premiere

Saturday Night Live premiered its 46th season this past weekend with Chris Rock (host) and Megan Thee Stallion (musical guest). Jim Carrey made his much anticipated debut as Presidential candidate, Joe Biden. Dare I say the premiere was worth the hype. The cold open brilliantly re-enacted the first Presidential debate and dare I say it was much more entertaining. It even referenced Trump’s recent diagnosis and hospitalization for Covid-19, which he has repeatedly called a hoax. (see below) From there the show continued to pull no punches as it referenced everything from voting rights, the mask debate (as if that should even be a debate) to Megan Thee Stallion’s performance (more on that to follow). One of the funniest sketches was the Superspreader Event Press Conference (see below) and the Weekend Update was good as well. See Favorite sketches below.

Megan Thee Stallion…

is deserving of her own section because her performance of her hit song ‘Savage’ was exactly that-savage. She used the moment to make a much needed statement about protecting black women. She has personally had a rough year after she was shot in both of her feet by rapper Tory Lanez, earlier this summer and all of the black lash and trauma she suffered as a result of the event. During the song parts of Malcolm X’s iconic speech “Who Taught You to Hate Yourself?”, in which he references the black woman as the most disrespected and unprotected person in America. She also took aim at Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron and his blatant dereliction of duty for his improper handling of the Breonna Taylor case. She also performed the ‘Don’t Stop’, her latest single ft. Young Thug.
