The Daily Wine Down (11-13)
Super Bowl Weeknd
Let me first start by sending a big congrats to The Weeknd. During normal times, say like last year or even a few years ago, I would have been really super excited by this news. But now not so much. I honestly can’t even attribute my lack of enthusiasm to Rona and it definitely has nothing to do with The Weeknd. I ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ him. I think it’s mostly because my love of the game (NFL) has waned over the years, for various reasons. But back to Super Bowl Weeknd. I wonder if, given the current state of things, the game will even be played, and if so will fans be allowed to attend the biggest sporting event on earth? I also wonder if they will do the same big stage per usual or will be a virtual performance? I’m hearing that ad sales are down. Most parties and other events surrounding the game and overall weekend are either being scaled back or canceled altogether. (Billboard)
Gotham Awards Nominations Highlight Women and Chadwick Boseman
The Gotham Awards nominations were announced today and women dominated the Best Director, Feature category. Chadwick Boseman was also nominated for his role in Ma’ Rainey’s Black Bottom. Many believe this is the first of many nominations and potential wins for Boseman in his final role before his death earlier this year. First Cow lead all nominations. The show will take place on January 11, 2021. (Variety)
College Covid Cancellations
College football is a covid clusterfuck right now. at least six marquee matchups have been canceled this weekend. The games were cancelled due to Rona outbreaks on the teams. The matchups include LSU-Alabama, Georgia-Missouri, Texas A&M-Tennessee and Auburn-Mississippi State, as well as Maryland-Ohio State. As much as I love sports and college football (admittedly it’s a love/hate type thing), I was against them playing this season for this very reason. I truly get that we all want our lives back and want desperately to return to normal. But somethings just have to wait until Rona is gone. (Deadline)
Bring the Pain
Painkiller is getting his own show. (possibly). I love this news. Painkiller, played by Jordan Calloway, is a character from the Black Lightning Universe. Initially I had little to no interest in this character, but I love how he has been developed over the first few years on Black Lightning . He even became a character I wanted to see more of. I now look forward to seeing how they continue to develop this character and how he carries his own show. (TVLine)
2020 Music Innovator...BTS
This has truly been the year of BTS. Even through a worldwide quarantine, which has affected us all in ways, we may never truly understand, they still found a way to do what they love, including performing concerts. Now they have been honored by the Wall Street Journal as the 2020 Music Innovator. I must say one of the things that have helped make 2020 more bearable, it’s been my love for BTS. They are truly talented and deserve all the things. (People)
