A Promised Land Playlist

Former President Obama has been making the rounds, mostly virtually to discuss his new memoir A Promised Land. During his promotional tour, he’s of course spoken about the current inhabitant of his former office and all his bs shenanigans since losing the election. Anyway, 44’s memoir is getting rave reviews. I have already ordered it and added it to my ever-growing must-read list. But I have moved this one to the top of the list. People say I should try audiobooks. If this clip is any indication then I'm sure this would be a great one to try. But I’m a bit of a purist when it comes to books. I actually like to read the book and I prefer hardcovers. One of the things I miss about the world way back before Rona was just getting lost in and losing time in a book store. Nothing beats a rainy day, a good book, a comfy chair, a glass of wine, or a cup of tea and a kick-ass reading playlist. Of course, President Obama being the music lover he is curated a special playlist for his book. 😊 Oh, how I miss him and am eagerly counting down the days until 46 takes office and 45 is a distance nightmare🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 (EW)

Dressing Up Harry

Harry Styles became the first man to have a solo Vogue cover. That’s what should be making the news not the fact conservative brain trusts and the arbiters of what is stupid and tasteless Ben Shapiro and Candace Owens got their panties in a twist because he did so in a dress. Somehow that makes Harry Styles less of a man? I wear men’s clothes does that make me less of a woman? Am I having an identity crisis? Is my feminity at stake? I can’t with all this toxic masculinity bullshit. Our gender isn’t defined by what’s in between our legs, the clothes we wear, and definitely not someone else’s stereotypical antiquated ideas of gender norms. With everything going on in the world today and their political party in particular, maybe they should be more concerned about what it is that makes someone a decent human being. So instead of focusing on “Blexit” or bringing back the “manly man” maybe Candace should focus on bringing humanity back.(Billboard)

The Batman Series Needs A Showrunner

Honestly, I didn’t even know there was a Batman series in development on HBO no less? How did I not know this? Now I am excited. Batman is one of my favorite superheroes. Maybe they can do with the series what they’ve failed to do with the films post Dark Knight, get it right. I am not including the Robert Pattinson film currently in production. I’m skeptimistic (yeah I just made that up- skeptical yet optimistic) about that movie and will reserve judgment until I see it. The series is supposed to be a companion piece to the film and focus on corruption within the Gotham Police Dept. Sounds interesting, even though they have apparently lost their showrunner, Terrence Winter (Boardwalk Empire) over creative differences. Now I’m even more skeptimistic with a heavy emphasis on the skeptical part. Filing away this away in the newly named file. (Deadline)

Transformers Transformation

Just checked and apparently, it’s time to reboot the Transformers franchise according to exactly no one. But if they are determined to continue making Transformers movies, which I used to love, I guess a reboot is necessary rather than continuing on with the same tired plot because the last few movies have been straight trash. I am not including Bumblebee in the trash can but let’s just say it wasn’t great. I’m excited to see that Steven Caple, Jr (Creed II) is in line to be the director of the next film. Hopefully, he can transform the series. (Slashfilm)

Gettin It Up For Spike's Next Joint

Automatically we’re going to file this what in the entire fuck and why into the because it’s 2020 file. But yes it’s true that the Spike Lee is making a movie about the little blue pill for the erectile dysfunctional -Viagra. I know you’re like “what’s wrong with that?’ The what the fuck part comes when you find out it’s a musical. Insert singing penis jokes here.🤷🏽‍♀️Just in case it wasn’t apparent before we really are living in The Upside Down. (Variety)

Wonder Girl

A Wonder Girl origin/backstory is in the works at The CW. The story focuses on Yara Flor, a Latina Dreamer who discovers she is Wonder Girl. This is amazing. First, this makes the first Latina superhero to get her own show. Second Yara Flor was recently announced as the new Wonder Woman and we also need more female-fronted superhero shows, especially when those women are women of color. (Deadline).
