War Over Taylor's Masters Begins Again
Taylor Swift is in the process of re-recording her first six albums. This news came in the wake of the announcement that Scooter Braun sold the masters to those albums for over $300 million. Braun acquired Taylor’s masters nearly two years ago when he purchased her former record label. BIg Machine Records. There was a lot of drama surrounding the sale and purchase of Taylor’s masters. She and Scooter apparently have a lot of bad blood between them. I am not sure if it just stems from the purchase of the masters or something else. But apparently, their relationship has not gotten better. If anything this latest sale of Taylor’s music has made it worse, if that is even possible. Anyway, I look forward to the new spin Taylor is putting on these classics. Scooter Braun may have won the battle, but something tells me Taylor is out to win the war. (Variety)
A Series of Murders
I am a huge movie buff. I especially love movies from ‘ Hollywood’s Golden Era’ (the ‘40s -the ’60s). Alfred Hitchcock is one of my favorite filmmakers from this era. I’ve seen just about all of his movies including, Dial M For Murder which is not only one of my favorite Hitchcock films but one of my favorite films of all time. Well, apparently it’s getting the remake treatment, in the form of a limited series. Alicia Vikander is attached as a producer and possible star of the series. I am not sure how I feel about this one. So I will this in the “wait and see” category. (Deadline)
"The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon" Coming Soon
Another Stephen King book is getting the movie makeover treatment. This time it’s The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, which has been described as a psychological thriller. The story is about a 9-year-old little girl who gets lost in the woods for days and fantasizes about being saved by her favorite baseball player, Tom Gordon. It sounds more like it’s along the lines of Misery or Green Mile, rather It or The Shining. I love Stephen King, but I swore to never read his books again after I was forced to read The Shining for a college literature course. It was a great book and scary AF even during the day. Although a few years later I did read the Green Mile., which I loved. I really enjoyed the book more than the movie. I even read the book after I saw the movie which is really rare for me. It’s hard for me to read the book after. I’ve seen the movie. Anyway, adaptations of his books are always hit or miss. So not sure where to file this one. (THR)
The Blessing and Curse of Mulan
In light of Mulan’s “success”, Disney+ is considering releasing more titles to Disney+ as PVOD. Financially it may have been a success for Disney but for me, it was a disaster. I took a gamble that Mulan would be worth the truly premium rate I paid to watch and lost. The movie was extremely disappointing and not nearly worth what I paid for it. For the record, I would have been equally disappointed if I had seen it in the theaters. I think the disappointment was heightened because of the extra money I paid for it. So needless to say this has made me skittish about paying that much to see any other movie, especially when I can wait a little longer and watch the movie as part of my subscription or just buy the movie cheaper (on another platform) and own it outright without being forced to keep Disney+ as part of the terms and conditions of my purchase. So yeah I can say I will most likely not be participating in this. (EW)
Wondering What To Do With Wonder Woman
Warner Brothers is trying to decide what to do with Wonder Woman, especially after the box office failure of Tenet. It is becoming increasingly clear that releasing it in theaters the movie at Christmas, is not going to work. Rona is spreading like wildfire and even with some theaters having reopened people still aren’t flocking to the movies. In light of that reality, WB is thinking about releasing the movie to HBO Max ( I am envisioning Tammy’s meltdown as I write this). Option 2 do what other studios did and push it til next summer. However there is no guarantee that theaters will be fully reopened by then and also another stark reality looms- some theaters may never reopen. Choices, choices, choices …(Deadline)
It's Beginning to Sound A Lot Like Christmas
It may not really look or feel like Christmas is around the corner but it is. Of all the years I wouldn’t have minded the early onslaught of Christmas stuff slowly sneaking its way into my consciousness way back in September…but say it with me - fucking Rona…I think I might break my own holiday rule and pull out the Christmas playlist a little early. Normally I wait until Thanksgiving but I think this year I can make an exception. I may even add some new music. (Billboard)
