The Daily Wine Down Thursday (12-3)
Jason Statham Is The King of Swag
I guess you can tell by the title, I go ALL the way in for Jason Statham. I was really excited to see he is in talks to star in a new movie, crime drama, Small Dark Look. The movie is supposed to be a follow up to the movie Eastern Promises and is in development at Focus Features. Statham hasn’t officially signed on yet but if and when he does I am there. I absolutely love him and have seen all of his movies. He is one of my favorite actors. Friends also know when I am having an unspeakably crap day because I either run Bad Boys Marathon or Jason Statham movie marathon. (Deadline)
Oscar Ceremony- Virtually Unclear
Earlier today I read a story stating that the Oscars were going to hold a live in-person ceremony. Then reports came out saying that is not true. Los Angeles is in the midst of a three-week lockdown due to raging Rona cases. California is on the verge of a state-wide shutdown, more on that later. So it seems that just like everything else in these Rona times nothing is certain except that the Oscars will be held on Sunday, April 25, 2021. Now we just have to wait and see if the ceremony will be virtual, in person or some sort of hybrid. (THR)
California On The Verge of Locking It All Down, Again
Governor Gavin Newsome is said to be on the verge of instituting a strict stay-at-home order for the state of California in an effort to try to slow the spread of the out-of-control Coronavirus, which is ravaging the entire country. The governor doesn’t want to issue a mandatory order unless absolutely necessary but he said the state is trending towards such drastic actions. One of the major factors in that decision will be ICU capacity which is becoming more limited by the day throughout the entire country. The way the whole country is trending we may need a national lockdown in order to get this thing under control. (Deadline)
Cue the Pandemic Movies
Over the next few years, we are probably going to see an onslaught of Pandentainment, movies, tv shows, etc. focused on the pandemic. I have never been a fan of Pandentainmnet movies like Contagion, Pandemic, etc. Not saying they are bad movies, they’re just not my thing. But this new movie Lockdown, which has a stellar cast including one of my faves Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ben Stiller, Anne Hathaway, and Mindy Kaling just to name a few, is hitting a little different. It’s being billed as a romantic comedy/heist movie that takes place during a pandemic lockdown. It’s scheduled to premiere on HBO Max sometime early next year. I will check this out for the cast alone. But I am not here for all the other movies to come especially those that will focus solely on the pandemic. I’m already living it and I sure as shit don’t need my escape from it to be a movie or tv show about it. (Deadline)
Getting a Whiff of Drake
Drake is trying to make dollars and scents from his pandemic side hustle. For those of you who may have been curious about what Drake smells like, now you can find out for $80.. He has launched a line of candles, Better World Fragrance House, and apparently one of the candles, Carby Musk, smells like him. All I can say is at least it’s not Gwyneth Paltrow’s Vajajay or her orgasm. (EW).
Blindspotting: The TV Series
Blindspotting was a hell of a movie and I often wondered if there would ever be a follow-up. Well turns out there it’s being adapted into a tv series. for STARZ. Original stars and co-writers of the film, Rafael Casal and Daveed Diggs are executive producing. Casal will also serve as showrunner. The series will star Helen Hunt and Jasmine Cephas Jones. It seems interesting and I will definitely check it out. If you have not seen the original movie I highly suggest you watch it ASAP. (THR)
