Spotlight Artist: The Neighbourhood
Welcome To The Neighbourhood (The NBHD)
Formed nearly a decade ago in California, The Neighbourhood is one of my favorite bands. I think I discovered them sometime around 2013 with the release of “Sweater Weather” from the album I Love You (2013). Then in 2014 with the release of their French Montana collab “#icanteven” from their #000000 & #FFFFFF mixtape, I was hooked and have been hanging with the group ever since. I even had the pleasure of seeing them live, a few years back when we were still allowed to do that sort of thing. I have also enjoyed seeing their evolution artistically and musically, although I do miss the black and white era. That was when they filmed everything in black and white even live appearances (see some below). I believe that era officially ended with their 2018 release Hard to Imagine The Neighbourhood Ever Changing. On their latest release Chip Chrome & the Mono-Tones they channel a 70’s soul-funk rock retro sound. But I would have to say that their 2015 release Wipeout is probably my overall favorite album, featuring such bangers as “R.I.P 2 My Youth”, “Single”, “Cry Baby” and “The Beach”. French Montana, they have also collabed with hip-hop heavyweights Nipsey Hussle, G-Eazy, and YG just to name a few.
